explorations in shadow and light

Ballard neighborhood, Seattle, Washington
UW Fall Foundation Studio I, 2019

lighting threatens overhead
wind sinks into stillness;
she burrows inside.

Design as experiment. Sculptural explorations in plaster explore the hierarchy and directionality of light and shadow. Following the light, the seeker moves downward from an open space of vulnerability to a place of security amidst the chaos and uncertainty just beyond the protective layers. The seeker can visit this place, but they cannot stay.
The layers, created of three interlocking forms, explore the complexity of the seams, the edges of form, and their impact on placemaking.
